Rank Reasons
Eutrochium dubium is a perennial herb found in wet, acidic habitats primarily in the coastal plain and also along rivers inland in eastern North America from Nova Scotia, Canada south to South Carolina, United States. It faces threats from development, rights-of-way maintenance activities, and recreational activities, but threats are not widely documented. With a large range extent and over 500 occurrences, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Eutrochium dubium occurs on or near the Coastal Plain, near major rivers inland, in eastern North America from Nova Scotia, Canada south to southeastern South Carolina, United States (FNA 2006, Weakley and the Southeastern Flora Team 2023). Range extent was estimated to be over 650,000 square kilometers using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1993 and 2024, it is estimated that there are over 500 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Eutrochium dubium is threatened by development, powerline and roadside rights-of-way maintenance activities, roadside widening projects, recreational activities (especially ATV use), and other threats in some places, though there is insufficient data, including anecdotal accounts, to understand scope and severity of threats for this species.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Eutrochium dubium grows in "moist habitats, in sandy or gravelly, acid soils, open sun or partial shade" and "inland along major river systems" (FNA 2006), including swamp forests and pocosins (Weakley and the Southeast Flora Team 2023).
