Taxonomic Comments

This record is for Polygonum sawatchense in the sense of FNA (vol. 5, 2005). Two subspecies of P. sawatchense are recognized by FNA (vol. 5, 2005), the typical and one formerly undescribed taxon, now called P.sawatchense ssp. oblivium. This latter subspecies is based on the type for P. douglasii ssp. johnstonii auct. (e.g., as in Hickman 1993). The name P. douglasii ssp. johnstonii was misapplied to the type (Costea and Tardif 2003). In contrast, Kartesz (1994) recognized P. douglasii ssp. johnstonii with P. sawatchense listed as a synonym.
