Taxonomic Comments
As treated by Kartesz (1999), the species Valeriana edulis includes not only (as var. edulis) a widespread plant of the Mountain West but also (as var. ciliata) the rarer plants of the Great Lakes region sometimes treated as V. edulis ssp. ciliata or as a distinct species Valeriana ciliata.
