Allium sanbornii is an uncommon species which occurs as two varieties in northern California and disjunctedly as a single, isolated population in southern Oregon. A. sanbornii var. sanbornii is widely scattered, occurring generally in small populations, while A. sanbornii var. congdonii frequently occurs in large populations.
Range Extent Comments
Allium sanbornii var. sanbornii is known from the foothills at the north end of the Sacramento Valley, along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada from Shasta to Calaveras County, California, and from a single, isolated population in central Jackson County, Oregon. A. sanbornii var. congdonii is disjunct in Nevada, Placer, Tuolumne, and Mariposa Counties, California (Denison and McNeal 1989).
