Taxonomic Comments
Carex timida is recognized as distinct and rare from the common sedge Carex jamesii. Carex timida is considered distinct from C. jamesii based on its red-purple shoot bases, tall culms, short staminate portions of the spikes and short perigynium beaks (Naczi and Ford 2001).

Carex timida is a newly recognized sedge in the Carex jamesii complex. It is considered rare and occurs in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Tennessee (Naczi and Ford 2001).
