Open Mojavean desert scrub, Pinyon and juniper woodlands, Joshua tree "woodland", in heavy soils, northern and western Mojave Desert, southern High Sierra Nevada, east of Sierra Nevada, California; western Nevada (Skinner and Pavlik 1994).
