Sisyrinchium capillare is a perennial herb that is endemic to the southeastern United States where it is largely restricted to the Atlantic Coastal Plain of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and northeastern Florida with some occurrences on the lower piedmont. The species is rare or uncommon rangewide.
Range Extent Comments
Sisyrinchium capillare is endemic to the southeastern United States where it occurs in southeastern Virginia, historically, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia,, and northeastern Florida (Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2022, FNA 2002). Plants attributed to Sisyrinchium capillare in Alabama are Sisyrinchium calciphilum (Alabama Plant Atlas 2022). The core of the species range is on the Atlantic Coastal Plain in North Carolina and South Carolina. In northcentral Florida, S. capillare may overlap with Sisyrinchium albidum where investigation of material is needed confirm identifications.

This species is uncommon to rare rangewide (Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2022).
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species occurs on the coastal plain in wet pine savannas and flatwoods and on the lower piedmont in acid seepages at elevations of 0 to 200 m (Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2022, FNA 2002).
