Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1999 Synthesis) recognizes as a distinct species; Kartesz notes (pers. comm. to Larry Morse, 25Nov99) that his acceptance of this species agrees with Iseley's 1998 treatment. However, these plants have been treated differently by others. Amorpha ouachitensis has been included with Amorpha glabra (Palmer, 1931) and A. virgata (Palmer, 1931), which Wilbur (1975) treated as a synonym of A. fruticosa. Wilbur (1975) believed the morphology of A. ouachitensis indicated a closer relationship with A. roemeriana. Tucker (1976) believed that it was poorly differentiated from A. nitens.
