Rank Reasons
Astragalus subvestitus is endemic to California and occurs in Kern and Tulare counties (CNPS 2001 and Hickman 1993). While it is considered rare by the California Native Plant Society, they report that it occurs in sufficient numbers and is distributed widely enough that currently the threat of extinction is low (2001). The CNPS also does not consider it very endangered as of 2001. A. subvestitus can be found growing in Great Basin scrub, meadows and seeps, pinyon and juniper woodland on gravelly or sandy soils at elevations between 2450 and 2750 meters (CNPS 2001).
