Taxonomic Comments
This treatment of Atriplex canescens follows the narrow sense of Kartesz (1994) which excludes A. linearis as a separate species; similar to FNA (vol. 4, 2003). However, FNA (2003) accepts distinct varieties var. gigantea, var. laciniata, and var. macilenta while Kartesz (1994) accepts only var. gigantea as distinct from the typical. Kartesz (1999) uses a more broad sense, including A. linearis as a variety.
