Calycadenia oppositifolia is endemic to California, found only in Butte county (Hickman 1993). It is found in chaparral, cismontane woodlands, lower montane coniferous forests, meadow and seeps, valley and foothill grassland on volcanic or serpentine soil. It is found between elevations of 215 to 945 meters (CNPS 2001). The California Native Plant Society reports that this species can be locally abundant, however, it is threatened by development, road construction and grazing (2001).

Habitat

Dry meadows, grassy to brushy openings, and road cuts within a variety of plant communities, including Valley and Foothill/Basalt Grassland, Chaparral, Foothill/Cismontane Woodland, and Yellow Pine Forest. Volcanic, granitic, or serpentine substrates; often on hillsides. 0 - 900 m.
