Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1999) does not recognize infraspecific taxa. He treats plants sometimes called Castilleja arachnoidea ssp. shastensis as indistinct from the type and plants called C. arachnoidea ssp. schizotricha as a distinct species.

Castilleja arachnoidea is in west-central to southwestern Oregon, northern California (1700-3000 meters), and northwestern Nevada, occurring on open rocky slopes and flats in dry sandy or gravelly soil.
