Range Extent Comments
Castilleja oresbia can be found in northeastern Oregon, Union, Baker, Grant and Wheeler Counties and in Valley and Adams Counties, Idaho.
Occurrences Comments
Botanists knowledgable about Castilleja oresbia estimate that there are probably more than 100 occurrences (Moseley pers. comm.; Johnson pers. comm.). The Idaho Conservation Data Center is aware of this species but has declined to add it to their rare plant list.
Threat Impact Comments
There are no known threats to Castilleja oresbia.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This indian-paintbrush grows in low swales and depressions of open sagebrush or sagebrush flats within coniferous forests at elevations from 3400 to 4900 feet (1050 to 1500 meters). Soils are heavy silt with low rock content. Plants are often found growing in and probably parasitic to sagebrush plants. Three different sagebrush have been reported growing with this Castilleja: Artemisia rigida, A. tridentata, A. ludoviciana
