Range Extent250-20,000 square km (about 100-8000 square miles)
Number of Occurrences21 - 80
Rank ReasonsThis species is restricted geographically to four counties in two states where populations seem to be healthy. There does not appear to be any threats, and it can tolerate mild disturbance. Many of the populations exist in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area and other undeveloped areas.
Range Extent CommentsEpilobium rigidum can be found in Del Norte and Siskiyou Counties, California and the adjacent counties of Josephine and Curry Counties in Oregon.
Occurrences CommentsThere are 55 occurrences reported to the Oregon Natural Heritage Program (1999) with more sites probably not reported. California Natural Diversity Data Base (1999) does not computer track this species and considers it to be "rare, but found in sufficient numbers and distributed widely enough that the potential for extinction is low at this time" and "not endangered".
Threat Impact CommentsThreats appear to be non-existent (Rolle pers. comm 1997), and it seems to tolerate moderate disturbance.
Ecology & Habitat
Habitat
Epilobium rigidum grows in rocky, open to brushy areas on serpentine soils, on ridges, upper slopes, trailsides, alluvial terraces, road cuts.
