Endemic to Washington State and known only from the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains and the adjacent western edge of the Columbia Basin (3 counties). Primarily threatened by fire suppression, which allows conifers to invade the open habitat on which the species depends. Also threatened by grazing, logging, and herbicides.

Habitat

Dry, open hillsides, gravelly streamsides, sagebrush-covered foothills, and open ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) forests. Low to mid elevations.
