Penstemon caryi is known from over twenty extant occurrences in Big Horn County, Wyoming and Carbon County, Montana. Populations are often small and occur in habitats that are grazed, but the species may prefer light disturbances.
Range Extent Comments
Regional endemic of the Bighorn and Pryor mountains of north-central Wyoming (Big Horn, Sheridan, and Washakie counties) and south-central Montana.
Occurrences Comments
Twenty-plus occurrences in Montana and Wyoming; Lichvar (Wyoming Natural Heritage Program) stated that it is not rare (see EF).
Threat Impact Comments
Habitat is sometimes grazed, but species may prefer light disturbance.
