Phlox dispersa is a perennial herb occurring on loose slopes of granite in alpine boulder and rock fields of Inyo and Tulare counties in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. There are an estimated 21 to 80 occurrences of this species, which largely occur on protected National Park or National Forest lands. Threats are presumed to be low.
Range Extent Comments
Phlox dispersa is endemic to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Inyo and Tulare counties of California in the western United States (CNPS 2024). Range extent was calculated to be 2,530 square kilometers, excluding unconfirmed and/or historical observations from Mono county.
Occurrences Comments
The number of occurrences was estimated to be 21 to 80.
Threat Impact Comments
Most populations of Phlox dispersa occur in high alpine and alpine areas in the Sierra Nevada on protected lands in the National Forest or National Park lands, where anthropogenic threats are presumed to be low (Calflora 2024).

Phlox dispersa occurs on dry slopes of loose granite in alpine boulder and rock fields from 3600 to 4200 m in elevation (Jepson Flora Project 2024).
