Taxonomic Comments
Kartesz (1994, 1999) and Cronquist (1994, Intermountain Flora) consider Senecio foetidus Howell (publ. 8/1900) and S. foetidus var. hydrophiloides to be synonyms of S. hydrophyloides Rydb. (publ. 2/1900). Cronquist (1994) stated that the varietal distinction or "segregation is arbitrary and scarcely meaningful", and that Rydberg's name is now realized to be earlier.
