Endemic to the Klamath Mountains in California. Known from about 66 sites and most sites are on private land and threatened by logging. Habitat is open serpentine and openings in mixed evergreen forests.

This plant occurs in the timber zone and primarily on private lands, so logging and road building are threats as well as improper burning regime and soil erosion.
