Range Extent Comments
A Southern Blue Ridge endemic: western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee to northern Georgia, and escaped from cultivation more widely, as in western Virginia, southern Maryland, central Tennessee, and West Virginia representing escapes from cultivation (Weakley et al. 2023).

The habitat of this species is not well understood but seems to be in disturbed sites and fire may play an important role for in maintaining favorable conditions for this species.
