Taxonomic CommentsAccording to Wen (2018), Vitis mustangensis may have hybridized with other Vitis species where they overlap in the same geographic area. Vitis mustangensis hybridized with V. acerifolia to produce the hybrid V. x doaniana (Flora of North America 2016).

Rank ReasonsVitis mustangensis is a woody vine that occurs in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. It was previously reported from Arkansas but this has not been confirmed. Its occurrence in Mexico needs confirmation. It grows on the edges of woods, along fencerows, and in disturbed areas.
Range Extent CommentsVitis mustangensis occurs in the United States in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas (Flora of North America 2016, Moore 1991). It was previously reported from Arkansas but recent references no longer include Arkansas as part of the distribution. It has also been reported from Mexico in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas (Villaseñor 2016), but this needs confirmation.
