Taxonomic CommentsBased on phylogenomic analyses, Stout et al. (2022) place this species in the genus Alburnops. This genus change is accepted by Page et al. (2023). Includes N. waccamanus and N. williamsi.

Range Extent CommentsAtlantic and Gulf slope drainages from Cape Fear and Waccamaw river drainages, North Carolina, south to southern Florida, west to Jordan River, Mississippi; restricted to Coastal Plain on Gulf Slope, more widespread on Atlantic Slope; common (Page and Burr 1991).
