Taxonomic CommentsThis species formerly was recognized as a subspecies of Moxostoma macrolepidotum. It was elevated to species status by Nelson et al. (2004), on advice of R. E. Jenkins and following Harris et al. (2002).

Range Extent CommentsOhio, Cumberland, and Tennessee river drainages (Etnier and Starnes 1993), from Indiana to southern New York, and south to northeastern Mississippi, northern Alabama, and western North Carolina.
