Rank Reasons
Alisma gramineum is a perennial herb occurring in shallow muddy ponds, stream margins, marshes, and ditches of most of North America and into northern Mexico. There are 1,000 estimated occurrences of this taxon range-wide, which are potentially threatened by development, water diversion, alteration of hydrology, erosion, succession, recreational activities, and invasive species. Little is known about threats or trends, but with a large range extent and high number of occurrences, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Alisma triviale occurs in most of North America, excluding Yukon and Nunavut, Canada, and most of the southern southeastern states (FNA 2000, Weakley and the Southeastern Flora Team 2024). This species also occurs in northern Mexico (FNA 2000). Range extent was estimated to be over 12 million square kilometers using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, SEINet 2024).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024, there are estimated to be over 1,000 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, SEINet 2024).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Alisma triviale is potentially threatened by development, water diversion, alteration of hydrology, erosion, succession, recreational activities, invasive species, and other threats in some places, though there is insufficient data, including anecdotal accounts, to understand scope and severity of threats for this species.
