Taxonomic Comments
This record is for the treatment of Trautvetteria caroliniensis in a broad sense, including T. grandis Nutt., a treatment followed in FNA (1997, vol. 3), Welsh et al. (2015), and the Jepson Flora Project (accessed Feb. 2023). Floden and Schilling (2018) support treating them as distinct, a treatment also accepted in Weakley et al. (2022). Weakley's treatment of T. caroliniensis also excludes T. applanata (published by Greene as T. applanta, a presumed correctable typographical error) and T. fonticalcarea, described by Floden and Schilling (2018).
