Taxonomic Comments
A study of the variation of morphology and male breeding colors in the subgenus Doration, combined with an evaluation of phylogenetic relationships based on 34 discrete breeding color, morphological and behavioral characters resulted in the recognition of five new species previously included with Etheostoma stigmaeum; obama, gore, jimmycarter, teddyroosevelt, and clinton (Layman and Mayden 2012).
