Taxonomic Comments
The form occurring on the Tres Marias Islands and coastal Nayarit may represent a distinct species, Turdus graysoni.

Range Extent Comments
Resident in lowlands and mountains (to 2100 m) of western Mexico from southern Sonora to western Puebla and Oaxaca. Casual visitor in winter to southern Arizona; accidental from southern Texas to southern California (NGS 1987).

Habitat

Forest, scrub, towns (Sibley and Monroe 1990). Treetops and dense shrubbery (NGS 1987). Deciduous tropical woods; tops of fruiting trees; dense shrubbery of parks and gardens; lowlands, foothills, and highland valleys (Terres 1980).
