The range extent is estimated to be 1.4 million square kilometers, there are over 300 occurrences, and it is considered to be common in high meadows, alpine, or on talus or scree slopes within the center of its range in Colorado.

Polemonium viscosum occurs in alpine areas of the Rocky Mountains and other western North American mountain ranges, from British Columbia and Alberta in Canada, south to northern Arizona and New Mexico. The range extent, based on herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1995 and 2023, is estimated to be 1.4 million square kilometers (GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023).
