Fairly widespread and common through dry mountain ranges in southern California and parts of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. Well-adapted to fire and grazing.
Range Extent Comments
Southwestern Utah, northern Arizona, southern California, southern Nevada (Holifield 1987). Coniferous forest formations of some desert mountain ranges in the Mojave (Harshberger 1911); in the Beaver Dam Mountains of Washington County, southwest Utah (Welsh et al. 1993); the southern half of Nevada (Kartesz 1988); widely distributed in mountains of southern California (Hickman 1993).
