Moneses uniflora is a circumboreal perennial forb occurring in bogs and moist conifer woods of North America and Eurasia. There are over 2,000 estimated occurrences of this species, which are potentially threatened by development, logging, road maintenance, invasive species, and other threats in some places. Little is known about threats or trends, but with a large range extent and high number of occurrences, Moneses uniflora is considered secure.
Range Extent Comments
Moneses uniflora is a circumboreal species, occurring in North America and Eurasia (FNA 2009). In North America, it occurs from Alaska and the Northwest Territories east to Newfoundland and Labrador and south to California and New York in the United States and Canada. Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data collected between 1994 and 2025 (GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, RARECAT 2025, SEINet 2025).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1994 and 2025, it is estimated that there are over 2,000 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2025, iNaturalist 2025, NatureServe 2025, RARECAT 2025, SEINet 2025).
Threat Impact Comments
Although threats are not widely documented, Moneses uniflora is potentially threatened by development, logging, road maintenance, invasive species, and other threats in some places. However, their overall impact is likely negligible given the species' broad range and large number of occurrences.
