Taxonomic Comments
According to Sheviak and Jennings (2006) more critical study of column morphology in the material attributed to Platanthera sparsiflora, "has disclosed significant patterns of variation and demonstrated the presence of a previously unrecognized species" which they describe as P. tescamnis. This record is for the concept of P. sparsiflora recognized in Kartesz (1994) and would include that material. This treatment also includes recognition of P. sparsiflora var. ensifolia, but Sheviak and Jennings (2006) describe the placement of some of the material considered var. ensifolia belonging elsewhere.
