Taxonomic Comments
Distinct species; as treated here (following Kartesz, 1999 Floristic Synthesis), excludes the plants sometimes called Escobaria missouriensis var. marstonii, considered by Kartesz to be misidentified plants of a different species, Escobaria (or Coryphantha) vivipara (John Kartesz, letter to Larry Morse, 25Nov99). FNA (vol. 4, 2003) lumps subspecific taxa.
