Taxonomic Comments
The concept represented here is Ipomopsis multiflora in the broad sense, including varieties whitingii and brachysiphon. Kartesz (1999, 1994) included material previously assigned to these varieties in I. polyantha. Wilken (2019) indicates that recent molecular work shows that these varieties are more closely related to I. multiflora, a widespread species in the southwest, than I. polyantha, a species endemic to Colorado. I. polyantha is listed as Endangered on the U.S. Endangered Species List. The circumscriptions and nomenclature in Wilken (2019) will be included in the upcoming volume of Flora North America.
