Occurring in the Colorado Plateau in desert shrublands and pinyon-juniper communities, often on sandy ground, and sometimes gypseous clay in Nevada. Scattered in sites from the Clark Mountains of eastern California to western Colorado. Rare in the peripheral portions of its range in California and Nevada, with a patchy distribution in Utah according to Albee et al. (1988).

Reported in Utah (Duchesne, Emery, Grand, Iron, Kane, Millard, San Juan, Sevier, Tooele, Uintah, Washington, and Wayne Counties (Welsh et al. 1993), California (Clark Mts (Hickman 1993), Nevada and Arizona by Kartesz (1988) and in the Colorado and Gunnison River Valleys of western Colorado by Weber (1987).

Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Creosote bush, desert shrub, shadscale, sagebrush, and pinyon-juniper communities at 700-1730 meters (Welsh et al. 1993). In Colorado, found growing on dry valleys and mesas, often on sandy ground. In Nevada is reported from gypseous clay slopes within the Larrea belt (Kartesz 1988).
