Rank ReasonsChaetadelpha wheeleri is a perennial herb occurring in creosote and sagebrush bush scrub on sandy soils, alkali flats, and sand dunes in western North America from Oregon and California east to Nevada in the United States. There are 86 estimated occurrences of this species, which are potentially threatened by development, rights-of-way maintenance, invasive species, and drought.
Range Extent CommentsChaetadelpha wheeleri occurs in western North America from Oregon and California east to Nevada in the United States. Reports of the species occurring in Idaho are unverified (Jepson Flora Project 2024). Range extent was estimated to be over 180,000 square kilometers using herbarium specimens, NatureServe Network occurrence data, and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).
Occurrences CommentsBy applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data documented between 1993 and 2024, it is estimated that there are 86 occurrences rangewide (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, NatureServe 2024, SEINet 2024).
Threat Impact CommentsAlthough threats are not widely documented, Chaetadelpha wheeleri is potentially threatened by development, rights-of-way maintenance, invasive species, drought, and other threats in some places.
