Rank Reasons
Tracy's Lupine occurs in the northwestern United States, in the Klamath Mountains of northern California, and the Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon. There are about 14 occurrences, documented between 1991 and 2023. Threats to Tracy's Lupine are not well known, but may include impacts from development, grazing, and extreme or long-term drought, such as is associated with climate change. It has some resiliency on disturbed sites, such as where forests have been thinned, or sites burned in wildland fire. It occurs within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, in California it occurs on the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests.
Range Extent Comments
Tracy's Lupine occurs in the northwestern United States, in the Klamath Mountains of northern California, and the Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon. The range extent is estimated to be 18,400 square kilometers, using herbarium specimens, photo-based observations, and NatureServe Network occurrence data collected between 1991 and 2023 (CCH2 Portal 2023, Flora of North America Editorial Committee 2023, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, NatureServe 2023).
Occurrences Comments
By applying a 1 km separation distance to herbarium records and photo-based observations documented between 1991 and 2023, it is estimated that there are 14 occurrences rangewide ( CCH2 Portal 2023, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023, NatureServe 2023).
Threat Impact Comments
Threats to Tracy's Lupine are not well known, but may include impacts from development, grazing, and extreme or long-term drought, such as is associated with climate change. It has some resiliency on disturbed sites, such as where forests have been thinned, or sites burned in wildland fire (CCH2 Portal 2023, NatureServe 2023, Oregon State University 2023).
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species occurs in northern California in open, dry, montane coniferous forest, at 800 to 2080 meters elevation, and in Oregon on disturbed areas and on serpentine at elevations from 300 to 1400 m (Oregon State University 2023, Sholars and Riggins 2022).
