Bryum miniatum is known from British Columbia to California and inland to Utah and Montana. This beautiful red moss is also known from Missouri, Newfoundland, and the Faeroe Islands.

Belland (1987) mapped 5 locations for the species in Newfoundland.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

Growing on wet rocks, especially in or near brooks or on cliffs (Crum and Anderson 1981). From sea level to about 1300 m (Lawton 1971). Also on wet soil (Spence 1988).
