Rank ReasonsEriogonum hookeri is an annual herb found across the Intermountain West in the United States. With a large range extent, abundant habitat, broad habitat preferences, and no obvious intrinsic vulnerabilities, this species is considered secure.
Range Extent CommentsEriogonum hookeri is known from the Intermountain region of the western United States from southeastern Oregon to Wyoming and south to eastern California and northern Arizona (FNA 2005, USDA 2024). Historic reports of the species from northwestern New Mexico have not been verified in more than 40 years, and the species may be extirpated there. Range extent was estimated using herbarium specimens and photo-based observations documented between 1993 and 2024 (GBIF 2024, iNaturalist 2024, SEINet 2024).
Occurrences CommentsThis small annual is likely underrepresented in herbaria collections, not all collections are georeferenced, and anecdotal comments support the likelihood that there are more than 90 occurrences rangewide. Eriogonum hookeri may also be confused with the more abundant Eriogonum deflexum, leading to lower rates of observation and identification.
Threat Impact CommentsAlthough threats are not widely documented, Eriogonum hookeri is potentially threatened by development, road maintenance, invasive species, livestock management, off-road vehicle use, and other threats.
