Taxonomic Comments
As treated here (following Kartesz, 1999), excludes Salix fluviatilis, a rare willow known only along the Columbia River in Oregon and Washington. However, the name 'Salix fluviatilis' is applied by some to the widespread, abundant western U.S. species here called Salix melanopsis. LEM 10Jun00. FNA (vol. 7, 2010) rejects the name S. fluviatilis and instead references S. columbiana.
