Taxonomic Comments
In 1994, Kartesz lumped Bromus marginatus var. seminudus material into Bromus polyanthus, whereas in 1999 Kartesz lumps B. marginatus var. seminudus into B. marginatus. However, the subnational distributions of Bromus polyanthus as recognized by Kartesz (1994) and Kartesz (1999) are exactly the same, so the concepts were considered equivalent despite the change in placement of the seminudus material. Kartesz lumps Bromus paniculatus material into Bromus polyanthus in both 1994 and 1999; however, in 1999, he recognizes it as a distinct variety within B. polyanthus (B. polyanthus var. paniculatus), whereas in 1994, he did not recognize any varieties within B. polyanthus. Brainerd et al. (2016) include Bromus polyanthus (= B. sitchensis var. polyanthus) as a variety of B. sitchensis.
