Taxonomic Comments
The FNA (2000, vol. 22) treatment did not recognize distinct varieties of Juncus nevadensis, citing highly variable characters. The second edition of The Jepson manual (Baldwin et al. 2012) does accept var. inventus and var. nevadensis as occurring in California; this extends the range of var. inventus (previously thought to be endemic to Oregon) and it is not clear whether that is due to identification of new specimens or a taxonomic revision.
