Taxonomic Comments
This record is for a broad treatment of Sparganium emersum as recognized by Kaul in FNA (2000, vol. 22) and by Haines (2011), including S. emersum var. acaule (which FNA does not distinguish from typical S. emersum). Ito et al. (2016) recognize S. acaule as a distinct species and a more narrow concept of S. emersum which is equivalent to S. emersum var. emersum recognized by Haines (2011). Kartesz (1994, 1999) recognized a broad concept of S. angustifolium that included both S. acaule and S. emersum.

Habitat

This species grows in "still to flowing eutrophic and mesotrophic, circumneutral to somewhat alkaline waters," slow moving waters at edges of streams, and bogs (FNA 2000, Weakley and Southeastern Flora Team 2024).
