Astragalus calycosus occurs in the western United States, from the Great Basin and Range of California, eastern Oregon, and Nevada, through southern Idaho, Utah, southwestern Wyoming, southwestern Colorado, northwestern and central New Mexico, and Arizona. There are likely more than 300 occurrences, documented between 1992 and 2023, and threats impacts are likely low, including from recreational ORVs and invasive exotic plants.
Range Extent Comments
Astragalus calycosus occurs in the western United States, from the Great Basin and Range of California, eastern Oregon, and Nevada, through southern Idaho, Utah, southwestern Wyoming, southwestern Colorado, northwestern and central New Mexico, and Arizona. The range extent is estimated to be 850,000 square kilometers, using herbarium specimen and photo-based observation data collected between 1992 and 2023 (Barneby 1989, GBIF 2023, iNaturalist 2023).

Habitat

This species is found in sunny, sandy locations like semi-deserts and mountains (Wildflower Center 2011), on rocky slopes to flats from 914-2438 m (3,000-8,000 feet) elevation (SEINet 2023).
