Taxonomic Comments
Considered indigenous from southern U.S. to South America, the West Indies, Pacific Islands [incl. Hawaii], and Australia (Wagner et al., Flora of Hawaii, 1990). Also, treated as native in Canada by Alberta and Manitoba CDC's.

Heliotropium curassavicum occurs throughout North and Central America and into South America in disturbed, saline habitats. There are hundreds of recent occurrences, especially in the western U.S.A and Mexico.
Occurrences Comments
There are hundreds of occurrences documented by recent observations and specimens . The species occurs in disturbed saline habitats which can be quite common in California, Nevada and other western states. There are many herbarium specimens documented from Mexico as well (J. Johnson, pers. comm., 2019; iNaturalist 2019; SEINET 2019).

This species is found in dunes, around lakes or ponds, and on stream/river banks (Wildflower Center, 2021).
