This species is known from eight states in the western U.S., and is only considered to be rare in Wyoming.
Range Extent Comments
Occurs from eastern Oregon and California, east to southeastern Wyoming, central Colorado, and southern Utah.
Occurrences Comments
There are 3 occurrences from Carbon County, Wyoming. There are 6 other reports from Lincoln and Sublette counties which may be misidentified (pers. comm. Walt Fertig WYNDD 1999 to Kim Fayette). There are 14 specimens at CSU Herbarium from Larimer, Jackson, Gunnison, and Garfield counties (CSU Herbarium 1999). Weber and Wittmann (1996) also report Routt and Mesa counties for the Colorado distribution. This species is known from the north side of the Grand Canyon, Arizona (pers. comm. Sabra Schwartz AZHDMS 1999 to Kim Fayette). It is reported from 20 counties in California (Texas A&M Bioinformatics Working Group 1998). There is no locational information for Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, or Oregon.
Ecology & Habitat

Habitat

This species is found on gravelly to rocky slopes at 2400-3050 m in California (Hickman 1993). Harrington (1954) reports that this species is found on dry ground at about 8000-8500 feet in Colorado.
