FNA's (2016, vol. 12) treatment includes in synonymy: Mentzelia albicaulis var. integrifolia S. Watson, M. dispersa var. compacta (A. Nelson) J. F. Macbride, M. dispersa var. latifolia (Rydberg) J. F. Macbride, M. dispersa var. obtusa Jepson, and M. pinetorum A. Heller. Kartesz (1994 and 1999) accepted var. compacta, var. latifolia, and var. obtusa as distinct varieties of M. dispersa.
