Taxonomic Comments
Sometimes treated as two separate species, the widespread western S. calceoliformis, occasionally reported as an escape in the East, and the species S. americana of New England and Atlantic Canada. Kartesz (1994 checklist) combines these under the name S. calceoliformis. The name Suaeda occidentalis has also been used for the western plant.
