Taxonomic Comments
Epithet 'Uvedalia' is apparently an undeclinable noun (cf. Asa Gray, Field For. Gard. Botany, 1868); there is a genus name 'Uvedalia' and no adjective 'uvedalius' appears in Stearn's Botanical Latin. Genus name "Smallanthus" is clearly masculine in gender, but would not affect epithet ending if epithet is a noun in apposition rather than an adjective. Kartesz (1999) used the spelling 'uvedalius' but more current sources (e.g., FNA, vol. 21, 2006) use 'uvedalia'.
