Assis et al. (2016) evaluate the monophyly of several Polypodiaceae genera, including Phlebodium. The generic placement of this taxon, in Phlebodium, is in accordance with the Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group I (2016).

Epiphytic, often on tree trunks. In the U.S., frequently occurs on Sabal palmetto (Lellinger, 1985).
