Taxonomic Comments
As recognized in Kartesz (1999) and Weakley et al. (2024), following Brunton and Britton (1996), Isoetes valida includes plants formerly considered I. caroliniana (= I. engelmannii var. caroliniana) and I. engelmannii var. valida; I. valida has priority as the older name. Kartesz (1994) and FNA (1993, vol. 2) included I. engelmannii var. valida / I. valida in I. engelmannii and recognized I. caroliniana as distinct.
